What is this, Slashdot circa 1998? Flash is the ONLY truly cross-platform technology for web audio and video. Sure, you can make irritating shit with Flash, but that goes for DHTML and animated GIFs as well. I can respect Random Coworker's decision to browse with Flash off, but unless s/he's A) browsing with Lynx or B) also turning off Javascript and only loading images on request, s/he's a hypocrite.

And don't get me started on the retards who install FlashBlock and then file bugs about Flash apps not working...

I second the FlashBlock extension in Firefox. It doesn't load flash movies unless you want them. Click the little play icon in the place of the flash if it's something you want to see, ignore the rest.

I take your point: Flash is often used for vanity and glamour. But surely you're not arguing against its being a powerful technology. I've seen it doing things I wouldn't know how to to do in other ways. I know you've seen Ryan's International Remix (http://fest06.sffs.org/remix/). Flash made it possible (in 2 months).
